Miles College scored the go ahead touchdown with just three seconds remaining in the game to lift the Golden Bears to a 24-21 win and spoil Kentucky State’s homecoming.
Just sixty seconds prior Kentucky State had taken its first lead of the game on quarterback Jules St. Ge’s elecrifying, tackle breaking 39-yard touchdown run, the third touchdown he accounted for on the day.
Both teams got off to shaky offensive starts. Kentucky State’s opening drive got into scoring position, but a blocked field goal forced the Thoroughbreds to come away empty handed. Miles’ first drive would get all the way to the KSU one-yard line but was unable to punch it in on a 4th down.
The second quarter would see both teams score on their first possessions of the second quarter. Miles would cap a 7 play, 82 yard drive with 19-yard pass from Daniel Smith to Malik Campbell. The extra point would give the Golden Bears a 7-0 lead. Kentucky State responded with an 11 play, 84 yard drive that ended on a 9-yard touchdown pass from St. Ge to Demetrius Anderson to tie the game at 7 with the completed extra point.
Miles reclaimed the lead 10-7 on Jackson Spradlin’s 37-yard field goal. Kentucky State would attempt and miss a 39-yard field goal as the first half expired.
The Golden Bears would extended their lead to ten at 17-7 when Daniel Smith threw his second touchdown pass of the day, an eight yarder to Montavious Tinch. Following a missed 44-yard field goal, the Thoroughbreds went on a 9 play, 74 yard drive that culminated with Jules St. Ge’s second touchdown pass of the day, this one a 21-yard pass to Paul Campbell. The extra point made the score 17-14. Later in the fourth quarter KSU would take the on the aforementioned run from St. Ge. It would be a lead they would not be able to hold on to.
